It’s almost here!!!!!
The boys and I have spent much of the last few months locked in a studio drinking creativity juice to bring you guys the next addition to our discography.
The song choices are different from our usual go-to’s. Yes we have some quality vintage on this album (“Trampled Underfoot” by Led Zepplin, “Trouble” by Cat Stevens, and “Tomorrow Never Knows” by The Beatles), but we’re also cutting some new stuff. Now, when I say “new” I mean less than 20 or 30 years old. Radiohead’s “High and Dry,” and Elliott Smith’s “Waltz No. 2” both made the cut. We’re also visiting Tom Waits (“Clap Hands”) which gets good and dirty. That tune “Trust Yourself” that we’ve been playing for years and you guys have been asking us to record, we’ve done it. This tune is technically only half a cover. It was originally recorded by the late Etta James, but since our very own Kevin Bowe wrote the tune, it’s a blurry line. We’re just trying to do it justice. Etta leaves big shoes to fill. This brings me to our last tune. On Valentine’s Day I was asked to perform at an Elton John tribute. We had all the songs picked for Hiding and no room for more. However, I fell in love with a song – “Madman Across the Water.” So, we MADE room. In fact, I just cut the vocal this morning. Today was my last trip to the studio. My work here is done. Now it’s just up to Kevin to pull it all together.
We’ve got several guest artists on this album. Johnny and Molly from Communist Daughter are singing harmonies on “Trouble.” Chris Koza and I turned “Waltz No. 2” into a duet. Davina Sowers of Davina and the Vagabonds added some cool backup vocals on “Trust Yourself” and “Clap Hands” this morning. Lastly, we’ve got The Laurel String Quartet coming in this Thursday to do their thing on “Madman.” As usual, Peter Anderson and Steve Price hold it all down on drums and bass. Kevin Bowe is playing all the guitars and some angry harmonica. And our newish keyboard player, James Tyler O’Neill, is making his debut on an Alison Scott record.
CDs are available for pre-order and will be mailed out before the release party on June 8th at The Varsity Theater. Get your tickets now and I’ll look forward to see you there!
